Preparing and Storing Amoxicillin Suspension

Always follow your doctor’s or pharmacist’s instructions precisely. They will provide tailored guidance based on your specific prescription and needs.

To prepare the suspension:

Ensure the bottle is at room temperature. Cold liquid can make mixing difficult. Add the correct amount of water as directed on the label. Use only the type of water specified (usually water). Gently shake the bottle for at least one minute to completely mix the powder and water. Incomplete mixing can lead to inaccurate dosing. Check the appearance of the suspension. It should be a smooth, uniform mixture. Lumps indicate incomplete mixing; shake again.

Proper storage is crucial for maintaining the medicine’s potency:

Store the reconstituted suspension in the refrigerator (between 36°F and 46°F or 2°C and 8°C). This slows down degradation and prevents bacterial growth. Always shake well before each dose. The medicine will settle over time. Discard the suspension after the prescribed time limit. Typically, this is 10-14 days after reconstitution, but check your specific label. Keep the medication out of reach of children. Use a child-resistant cap.

Note: Do not freeze amoxicillin suspension. Freezing can damage the medication.
